“This approach renders a more natural response to dynamics over the whole frequency spectrum, plus the ability to fine-tune each profile in ways that just isn’t possible when using convolving methods.”įeel free to judge for yourself by checking out the before and after comparison audio samples below. What Klevgränd say separates STARK from other amp simulators is that the cab, amp and ambience modules are built on their own algorithms that “doesn’t involve any convolution or FFT analysis.” The modules process all audio separately, which allows you to combine different amplifiers with different cabinets and rooms to create hundreds of unique sounds. STARK is packing four distinct modules – Amplifier, Cabinet, Room and a Pedal board. You’re getting a lot of bang for your buck here.

This is important as at the time of writing I’m pretty sure STARK is one of, if not the the only AUv3 amp simulator available.

(I’m looking at you, Amplitube)Īs I mentioned previously, it’s available to Apple music makers on both macOS as an Audio Unit plugin and on iOS as an Audio Unit Version 3 app. Despite its clean, straightforward looks, uncomplicated set of controls and modest price tag, STARK somehow manages to sound just as good (if not better) than a lot of other high profile amp sims available today. STARK is a fully fledged amp simulator aimed squarely at guitarists, bass guitarists and synth/keyboard/midi controller users.

I bought a couple Celestion ones on sale that sound really good, but honestly S-gear partnered with redwirez so the cabs already sound nice. There’s a lot of buzz in the Mac and iOS music making scenes surrounding software company Klevgränd’s latest release.Īfter spending a few days with both the iOS and macOS versions of STARK, their ‘ridiculously slick and playable’ amp simulator, i’m happy to report that any and all hype surrounding this thing is entirely justified. Grab these and an IR loader, with free IRs from redwirez and ownhammer etc.Īs mentioned above, the cabs can make a giant difference. Mercuriall (I think it's them) has a couple free amp plugins. In the end for the amount I play there wasn't enough difference for me to warrant the purchase. With that in mind, when I wanted to check out Neural DSP plugins on sale I downloaded a couple DI guitar clips from actual players I A/Bed Nolly to S-gear and frankly while there was a difference I really couldn't say one was "better".higher gain I liked the Nolly better but S-gear was hanging in there. A real player might be able to coax sounds out of Logic but I need all the advantages I can get! The silver fender looking one, with a clean-ish tone was the only one I could deal with.Įnded up getting s-gear and even I (a caveman on guitar) was getting nice tones. I tried changing out the Logic cabs (by disabling them and adding an IR loader to the channel strip) and that helped somewhat.

The bass amp designer is pretty good IMO, the guitar one is not. I struggled to get a good tone out of Logic's amp designer. I should be doing more guitar, I'm reminded by this thread (mostly play keys).
